Our client, a global automotive industry manufacturing company, is currently looking for a Cost Accountant to join their team a plant located in the Manchester, TN area in a permanent, direct hire role. Cost Accountant Job Description

Responsibilities


  • Applies accounting principles that include work that is analytical, creative, evaluative, and advisory in nature and that requires an understanding of both accounting theory and practice.
  • Thorough knowledge of the fundamental doctrines, theories, principles, and terminology of accountancy, and often entails some understanding of such related fields as business law, statistics, and general management.
  • Prepares accurate and timely daily production related reports for use in plant production and plant management meetings
  • Assists Controller with preparation of other daily, weekly, and monthly reports as directed
  • Assists Controller with month end close and financial report preparation as directed
  • Provides support during annual operating budget process, often working with other functional areas to gather and validate data
  • Plant lead for cost accounting, including costing of new parts and engineering level changes, gross sales margin analysis, investigation of production variances, and other cost accounting functions
  • Participates in monthly account reconciliations as directed
  • Analyzes the effects of transactions upon account relationships. Evaluates alternative means of treating transactions. Plans the manner in which account structures should be developed or modified.
  • Ensures the adequacy of the accounting system as the basis for reporting to management. Considers the need for new or changed controls.
  • Projects accounting data to show the effects of proposed plans on capital investments, income, cash position, and overall financial condition.
  • Interprets the meaning of accounting records, reports, and statements. Advises operating officials on accounting matters.
  • May lead and coordinate activities of clerical workers performing accounting and bookkeeping tasks.
  • Any other reasonable request made by management.
  • Contributes to a safe, clean and comfortable work environment that complements the Occupational Health and Safety Act by ensuring the principles of the 5S discipline (simplify, separate, sanitize, standardize and support) are supported and adhered to.


Qualifications


Work Experience


  • Minimum 1-3 years accounting experience in an industrial environment with heavy emphasis on costing activities


Skills (language, technical, computer etc.)

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Effective use of problem solving and decision making skills
  • Effectively manages multi-tasks and changing priorities
  • Knowledge of SAP preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills required, i.e. Pivot tables, VLOOKUP


Education


  • Degree in Accounting
